25 Days Of Christmas~12 Days Advent Calendar

Ok, so this won’t be a habit, I’ve just been SUPER busy!
AND……
I’m coming up on a very busy weekend too!
What the heck was I thinking posting everyday!!!
BUT…..
On with the show, so here’s day 10 with a

“12 Days” advent calendar.
I actually saw this one on the Michaels website and HAD to have one (that makes 3 advents in our house, including this one).
It’s really easy too. This is what I taught last night at Crafter’s Club (at my house, which is barely presentable).
So, go to your local Michaels and get:

A 12 inch floral craft ring ~ NOT the foam one…..the flat MDF one with 8 holes all around

A 30 count favor round tin kit from the bridal section ~ Use your coupon for this one, it’s $20

Some purdy paper

Mod Podge

Hot glue gun

Some number stickers or just cut some 1″ numbers on your Cricut

Start by painting the edges (inside and out) white or whatever you want.

Once dry, lay your ring down on your piece of paper and trace and then cut it out. You can also use your Xacto to cut it out as shown.
The ring will be a tiny bit bigger than the paper, but once it’s on…….you won’t be able to tell.

Then, apply liberal amounts of Mod Podge onto the ring and stick your paper down and make sure it’s stuck!
Let that dry and now add another coat or two of MP to protect it and then ink the edges (like I do with everything).

While you wait for that to dry, cut (or punch) out 12 circles of coordinating paper and adhere a number to each one.

Now, take the lid of your tins and pop out the plastic part. Then, take your paper circle and put it the lid (face out) and pop the plastic back in, behind the paper.

Now, once your wreath is dry, turn it around and find where you want the top to be (there should be a hole at the tippy top), then find the holes to either side of that tippy top one and poke throught them so you can get your ribbon threaded through.

Then, turn it back over, and starting from the top, arrange your tins on your wreath and move them around till it looks goods.
Then, hot~glue them down (on Michaels, she use velcro, but I KNOW those would go missing as soon as my kiddos figured that out).

Now add the decorated tops!

Pick out your ribbons, and thread them through and tie them. I used 3 coordinating ribbons…..and it looks way cute!

  6. Emily….this is so CUTE!!!! I just love it. I wanted to get around to an advent calendar and just haven’t found the time–too busy making ornaments!

I wanted to share this with you. I just posted:

    http://starviewsonnet.blogspot.com/2009/12/very-significant-tree.html

We started collecting these ornaments in 2000 when we brought our daughter home. We get them at Macy’s. Thought you might want to start a collectio. They were started by Dave Thomas – Wendy’s (adoption advocate and father). I can’t believe we have 10 as of this year.

Hope all is going well and you are enjoying this special time of year.

    Best,

    Cori

  13. So cute!! I have hubby out cutting the MDF piece right now!! I am not sure what you mean by “inking the edges”. I like how the items have the “burnt” look around them. How do you accomplish this? Thanks!! Jill

  14. So I was wondering where you got your christmas paper, it is simply darling! Thanks. :)

  15. Carter~ The paper I used was from My Mind’s Eye and was called “Be Merry” & “Snowed In”. Thanks!

  16. I saw this at Michaels too and had to make one. Only difference is that I used a bigger wreath and did the 25 days of Christmas. It turned out really cute and my kids love it!
