Cute Mother’s Day Photo Necklace

*If you are: MY mom, one of hubby’s moms (he’s lucky to have 2!), or any of our grandmothers……please stop reading this as it will ruin your surprise!!*
Ok, now that they’re gone………I wanted to show one last Mother’s Day gift (and obviously the one I’m making this year :)

I’ve been trying to figure out a good way to make these for awhile and FINALLY did it!!
I LOVE the way the glass tiles make things look, but regular photos don’t do well, since the paper is pretty much non-breathable and never lets the glue dry onto the glass tile.
So, since printing the photos on regular paper was not good enough (remember, I’m OCD?) I re-sized them onto a Microsoft Publisher (or Word) document and sent them to Staples ( you can download it on their website and send it to them) to get printed off on a laser printer onto 28lb. paper.

Go to this post to see a tute on how to re-size YOUR pics  :)The results were GREAT pictures, on breathable paper. (Note these pics are some of the EXTRA AWESOME ones that Jen Gagliardi took for us a few weeks ago!!!!! Still LOVE them!!!)

So, it was then a cinch to make these like I did here and here.

Then, instead of a magnet, you attach a bail on the back. I got the 1 inch tiles and bails from here on Etsy and got the large bails so I could slide them onto any necklace. But, these also make cute magnets!!

I got some cute ribbon necklaces from Joanns for around 1.99 each…..but they were on sale or you could use your handy coupon.

  1. Very cute. Please tell me what size these glass squares are? and what size magnet do you use on your glass pebbles. 1/2″? thanks again.

  2. Very cute! I just made the “moms” the washer necklaces, but thinking 2 gifts never hurt anyone! Thank you for such great ideas!

  3. I love these! Wish I had more time to make them for this year, but I’ll have to keep them in my little file for next year or great b-day gifts. Thanks for sharing :)

  4. This is an awesome explanation! Have to add your blog now so I can come back for more!

  5. Those are so cute! And so is your shirt! I am going to feature it tomorrow!

  6. This is exactly what I did for my Mother’s Day gifts! I resized my photos in Adobe photoshop copy and pasted multiples into microsoft word and took the files to staples too. I can’t post them on my blog even if I did the disclaimer at the top. My mom’s would peek. I’ll be putting the pictures up as soon as they get them though. I love that you fit multiple kids in one shot. 1″ is so tiny isn’t it? But they look great!

  7. Beautiful – thanks for sharing!
The moms in your life will be blessed with these gifts!

  8. Thanks for sharing this. I can’t wait to try it.

  9. I did the same thing – – but took mine in to Copy Max…

  13. Now maybe a tutorial on how to resize photos in Microsoft Word? :)

    I’ll have to try that…

  14. I second the tutorial on how to resize photos in word! ;)

Also, I looked at the etsy store and I can’t find just 1 inch tiles? Do you know if they still sell them? And/or do you have any other store suggestions?

  15. What a wonderful Mother’s Day idea! I might have to make one for me!

  16. where on earth do you buy the square glass tiles?

  17. Lauralee, Amy, Andrea, and byumom~ I got the tiles from the link I added in the post and you can ask them if they will sell you just the tiles (they seem to be selling just auctions that include magnets……which are the same 1/2″ size I used for my magnets Lauralee). Or you can just do a search on Etsy to find another supplier. Good luck!

  18. What a great idea! Thanks so much for sharing these, I’ll be linking.

  19. where did you get the necklace the silver one…?? THANKS~~~

  20. I absolutely LOVE this necklace!

I featured your project on my blog at http://www.ascrapoftime.wordpress.com!

  21. What size glass squares did you order from the esty link you listed?

Also, where do I find the large bails exactly? There are several listed on the site you linked.

    Thanks!

  22. Leticia~ I got the slider necklaces ages ago from a company called Lia Sophia, and you can “slide” just about any pendant onto it.

‘US’~ The tiles are 1″ and the bails are their “large” size.

    Thanks!

  23. I featured this on my blog today!
