A Few Words…..And Some Halloween Inspiration!!

I wanted to take a few moments and explain why I’ve not been around much lately…..
First, I hope you all know how much I LOVE this blog and all of you GREAT readers out there! You guys are what keeps me blogging/crafting late at night when I should be sleeping (really, I should be….)
Next, I wanted to tell you all the real reason I have been MIA so much (gasp!), well aside from the fact that there are 3 cute little girls always running around here that keep me pretty occupied.
So, I’ve mentioned before that I get migraines….and they suck (for lack of a better…..PG-rated word)!! Well, what I didn’t say was that I get them all.the.time. Like several days each week….and recently they have gotten worse and more frequent. (if you don’t know what migraines are, here’s a pretty good breakdown, but I have never had an “aura” with mine… needless to say I’m jealous, cuz they sound pretty freakin’ cool!).
Anyhoo, typically mine start with a regular headache for several hours and then advance in to full-blown migraine attack, where I need to sprinkle a box of cereal on the kitchen floor and turn on Phineas & Ferb to keep my girls happy while I retire to my closet and lay on the floor and just try to sleep it off and keep my feet against the door to keep my kids out when they run out of cereal….or till the baby has a poopy diaper….whichever comes first. Ok, I’m not really THAT neglectful…..but you get the picture. The migraine part is also usually followed by another headache or just where I feel crappy and tired for another few hours…..such a treat!
I do take a daily medicine to (cross-my-fingers) keep them away and then a medicine to stop them when they do decide to bless me with their presence….and that second one works well enough IF I catch it early enough, so, thankfully (hallelujah!) they don’t always progress to the migraine attack part.
So, there it is…..I still think of you all very often and will continue to post whenever I am able or not prying my older 2 children off the baby….cuz they “just love her so much, mommy” or keeping my now-walking toddler from running (yeah, that walking-to-running thing happens FAST!) over and getting the child-safe scissors from the craft table and putting them straight into her mouth. And then, blah, blah, blah, blah…….
Ok, enough boring stuff and onto the the good stuff!!
Here are some Halloween crafts I did in the past that still garner a pretty good following and will hopefully get your creative juices flowing in time for the long-awaited, candy-filled, sugar coma night (I will post new stuff soon!):

  1. Last year you inspired me to make the “jar” pumpkins and ghosts…the neighborhood kids loved them as they trick-or-treated!

Sorry to hear about the migraines – must be terrible to deal with…feel better!

  2. Sorry to hear you suffer from migraines. When I was younger I would get them once a month to two to three days until the Dr. gave me some meds to help. I do not know how I would have coped with them as often as you have them. I did the same thing just shut myself in a dark room and went to sleep.

  3. I so love and always have loved your Jack o lanterns and Monsters… I am going to be making some this year! I will be linking back to you soon.
AND my mom gets migraines like that every week she at least gets one or two and they last 4-7 days a week. I just recently found out about doTerra Essential Oils… I don’t have any and I don’t work for them so I’m not trying to sell you on them! BUT the oils are supposed to be more of a holistic medicine for everything. All you do is place it on topically on temples, head, back of neck and on the top of your nose so you breathe it in. It says to try these oils for Migraines, Helichrysm, PastTense, Sandalwood, and for headaches it says to try Peppermint, Lavender, Wintergreen… I will have to tell you later if they work on my mom, we haven’t been able to get them yet. But it’s not an extra asprin you have to take and you can take it with other medicines and it won’t mess you up! Maybe worth a try, hope that helps!

  4. Oh my goodness, I know exactly what you are going through (not as often, but the same). I’ve been getting migraines a lot more recently and I wish I got the auras too. I joke that I went 9 months of being pregnant without tossing my cookies, but one migraine does me in. I get so scared because I don’t konw what to with my baby when they hit. Thankfully my husband has been around, but I get scared of the thought of one hitting when I’m home alone, or at work…My heart goes out to you; unless you’ve had one, you can’t understand. I’m trying to fight one off right now.

  5. I’m sure sorry to hear how sick you’ve been. I get get migraines all the time too (back injury from a car accident 10 year ago)

I surely miss your blog but definitely take all the time you need to feel better.

  6. Sorry to hear about the migraines. I hope you find some relief soon!

  7. So sorry to hear about your migraines! I have had migraines before but never like you are experiencing. I hope you can find relief. It’s so hard to be a mommy and a migraine sufferer at the same time 8)

  8. Ditto on the migraines. It’s a rare day I don’t have a headache or migraine. I thought I was alone in it for the last 20 years, till recently. One girl went to the AZ Pain Center & didn’t get a headache for 4 months after. What a dream eh?

  9. Thanks for reminding me about the countdown blocks – I love those!

Sorry to hear about your migraines – I just wanted to say that 1) they’re nothing to mess with, and 2) you really DON’T want the auras because a lot of times they can be blood clots. My mom was in her 40’s and had a stroke…she got migraines something fierce. At a dr’s appt they brushed it off as nothing…she’d see vibrating rainbows, etc. This particular time she was having the same vibrating rainbows, and also couldn’t turn her hands so her palms were facing up…the dr told her it was a migraine that hadn’t surfaced and sent her home to take Tylenol. A few hours later she was slumped in the chair and couldn’t hardly move – thank God my dad rushed her to the hospital when he did, otherwise she might not be here to tell about it.

  10. I get migraines The Exact same way!! I’m SO SORRY! But the meds don’t work and the Doctors/ neurologists never figured out why i get them. I’m sorry you have to deal with them!
On a happy note, i LOVE these lanterns! And i love that I can follow the blog of someone so crafty!! Thanks for the great ideas! Good luck with your head!! :)

  11. Did you know a hole in your heart can cause migraines? It’s a lot more common than people think. If you have insurance, ask for a test. If you have the hole, the surgery to repair it is so simple now. They just go up through a vein like an angiogram. Only 5-6 years ago it was open heart surgery.

Essential oils are great, especially doTerra, but check out the hole in the heart if you can.

    Darling Halloween ideas.

  12. You are probably sick of people telling you how to cure the migraines, but I have an easy one that is worth trying. I used to get migraines on a weekly basis, so not as frequently as you, but still annoying. I had a doctor tell me to try taking vitamin B6. I take 50 to 100 milligrams a day and NEVER get migraines anymore. If I forget to take it for a few days in a row, then I will get a migraine. Try it and see! It might not work, but it’s a cheap thing to try. Good luck! Thanks for your cute blog.

  13. I have FINALLY made your jacks and monsters. They are so cute-I mean “scary”-sitting in the window. As always, thanks for the tute.

You are in my prayers…I used to suffer from stress related migraines, so I know how bad they suck. Hope you feel better soon.

  14. I truly enjoy your blog and have never commented, but I must weigh in on the migraine issue. I suffered for years until my cardiologist put me on Bystolic. All I can say is that it’s a friggin’ miracle drug. No more migraines. I wish I had known about it sooner, I would have had a better quality of life. Thanks for the halloween jar lanterns. Our family made them last year and they turned out so cute. Hang in there.

  15. Thanks so much for popping in, I luv ur creations. I do wish you some much needed relief, feel better soon.

  16. I’m so sorry about your migraines! My mom suffered from them for years, but thankfully now has them under control with medication. She only gets them a few times a year now, instead of a few times a week.

There’s hope! I’m praying for you!

  17. Hope you feel better soon!

I am gathering my jars and my daughter and I are going to make some pumpkins, ghosts, and mosters this week during fall break! Thanks for the great idea!

  18. That is horrible about the migraines. My sisterinlaw suffers form the same thing. So I know I have seen her with a migraine and it does not look like fun. I am thankful, that although those migraines try to rear their ugly heads, you still craft. Your ideas are so much fun. Thank you for your sweet comment on my blog and of course for inspiring me to make it. Have a awesome Monday!

  19. Em, that is AWFUL! I’m sorry to hear it :(

  20. Like RaNae said, Migraines can be caused by a hole in your heart called a PFO or ASD. It is a hole that is normally closed up right after a baby is born. About 30% of people have them and don’t know. I am a nurse, and where I work we fix these frequently. It is a pretty routine outpatient procedure. To test for this they can do a Transcraniel Doppler. That only involves an IV. They can also use a transesphogeal echocardiogram, which is a little more invasive. Good Luck!

  21. I love Halloween & these are inspiring.

  22. Love your ideas and your blog–sorry to hear about the migraines. If you need a new lead to check I had a friend who had terrible migraines that turned out to be from a spinal fluid leak. Once that was fixed her migraines virtually disappeared. Hope you are feeling better soon and back to blogging your great ideas!

  23. I too am sorry about your migranes. I only get them when I have to work long hours…like 18-36 hour shifts. So stress and lack of sleep cause mine. I don’t have a cure but alot of others have given you there remedies. I may have to try some of them.
Your pumpkin jars are what brought me to following your blog a year ago! They are super super cute.

  24. All of those ideas are wonderful! I just looove Halloween!!
I have givin you an award :)

  25. You had me at glow….

  26. Love your blog.

I to had bad migrains. Long story short I found out I had a hole in my heart. I got it fixed and have not had one in over a year. If you have insurance get that checked out.

The other thing the Dr. told me was to try and find your trigger. Keep a migrain journal, for the 24 hours before you get one. Write down everything that is going on in your life. What you ate, the weather, stress level, ect. It took me three entries to find out mine was stress.

    Good luck!

  27. I hope you are feeling better. I love the luminaries. Beautiful!!

  28. I’m so sorry to hear of your migraine struggles. While I’ve never actually had one, my mother & most of her 7 sisters get them, so I know how debilitating they are, especially when you’re the mommy of little ones. Be well!

  29. The aura isn’t so hot. I don’t get the headache but the pros think my double vision (left eye goes wonky) is a migraine aura without the headache. Nothing like driving at night with only one eye (the only way I can see only one of everything while the eye is wonky).

I really like the idea of cereal on the floor…I could’ve used that a few times when the kiddos were wee ones. Usually it was #3 son who did it.

The jar pumpkins are really nifty…they’re nothing like I thought they’d be…no paint! With the paper on the outside tea lights can go inside.

  30. I’ve battled migraines since college. I am pretty much down for the count once it starts. I totally get having to shut yourself up in a cool, dark, quiet room. I’ll send a pray up for you. Take care!

  31. Did you see this:

I am still enjoying our glowing jacks from last Halloween and am looking forward to making the wooden block counter! Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas!!

  32. I loved these last year when you posted them, but we were getting ready to move and graduate and all that. I made some this year and they’re on our mantle and a few of them got stuffed with treats and given to my VTees. Thanks for the idea. Now I’m just trying to find a way to make something Christmasy with jars and tissue paper. You can see my post about the jars here.

And I’m so sorry to hear about your headaches. I hope you find a resolution soon! It’s so hard to not feel well with little kids at home.

  33. I’ve just discovered your blog and send sympathetic wishes that you have more ‘nil’ migraine days than active migraine days. My sister suffers from migraines, but not on as regular a basis as you do and I know how it affects her :(.
Thank you for having this wonderful blog where I can find great ideas!

  34. Sorry to hear you suffer from migraines. I have had migraines before but never like you are experiencing. I hope you can find relief soon.
