Cute and Simple Flying Bats Decor

I am so much in love with the “bats in flight” decorations I’ve seen around recently that I decided that’s what I wanted to do on the wall behind my mantel this year for Halloween (I’ll show the finished mantel soon too).

Did you know that a group of bats is called a colony?….just a little trivia. Who says you don’t learn stuff when you craft.

I looked into cutting my own bats with my Cricut or Silhouette, but i didn’t have the right cartridge and then I got a little lazy. I saw these ready-made bats from Martha Stewart and they were on sale, so I decided to go ahead with these. They are made from pretty sturdy paper, so I should be able to use them a few more times.

Here’s what they look like up close…..pretty cute with their eyes cut out.

I used about 1 1/2 packages for this and putting them up didn’t take too long…..dragging the super heavey ladder outta the garage was a hassle, though. I think I’ll be putting “step-stool” on my list of things to get for the house now.

I like this effect for the front door too, but I already had other plans for out there. I also didn’t put any of the bats too low since I will be decorating the mantel and didn’t want them to get in the way of any of the decor.

Hope this inspires you to get going on your Halloween decorations too!

Have fun!
