Not So Spooky Halloween Birdhouses

This post has been a long time coming folks. I actually bought these little birdhouses after seeing these stinkin’ cute ones here from Jannypie…..Sooooooo cute huh?

So yes, I have had these just laying around for like, 4 years!! I even packed ‘em up and moved them with us across several states (I was THAT determined to make them).

I didn’t really add many embellishments since I think the paper is just fabulous on it’s own. Although, I did ink it up a little on the edges and added a cute raven and some sparkly spiders.

You might recognize the paper from my Halloween countdown blocks here. It’s Apothecary from Echo Park and I LoVe it! (yes, I know….I should just marry it, then)

Ok, so they started out just plain ‘ole little birdhouses I got at the Dollar Tree.

I took them out and spray-painted them black for the parts that will end up showing through.

Then, I traced and cut out all the pieces…I used wax paper to trace the difficult parts.

Now slap on the Mod Podge! Make sure you use enough. It will ooze out a bit at the edges, but that’s goooooooood. You’re not really Mod Podging till you get it all over yourself, right?

Add all the cute paper and cut out the little birdy hole…..so all the little birdies that hang out in your house can actually get in.

Ink that puppy up a little and then spray it down with a clear sealer OR brush on a layer of Mod Podge to help protect it from years and years of Halloween uses.

And the creepy spiders one…..

And finally the purdy orange one…..

My girls really love these and keep taking them down to play with them….even had to re-glue the little raven back on once already.

Now, go right out and get some cheap (get it?…cheep hee hee) little houses of your own and have the kiddos help you make some for your spooky house.

Have fun!
