Super Easy How to Make Pom Poms + Video! By:

I’ve had so many awesome readers email me and ask about the pom poms from my Christmas Wreath post. These fluffy things are so easy to make, but it tends to be a teeny bit tricky to learn exactly how it’s done.

That’s why, I decided to make a video (in addition to taking pics) so you can see it being done in person….kind of.

If you want to skip the pics and go straight to the video, just head down to the end of this post.

You’ll need:

Pom pom maker – You should be able to find them at any craft store….these¬†are the ones I have.

Yarn – the thicker, the better!

Start by opening one side of the maker….makes things easier to work one side at a time. Hold the end of the yarn with your thumb and start winding around the “U”. Then wind back until you get about 3 layers (or till it’s nice and full) on that puppy. Make sure you can still close it.

Next, close that side and bring the yarn over to the next side and wind that up too. You don’t need to snip the yarn, just keep going with the same one you’ve got.

When you have it as thick as you want it, take your sharp scissors, place them in the groove, and snip all the way around as shown.

Cut a long piece of matching yarn and set it in the groove and then tie a knot through the middle….pulling tight. (if this part is confusing, the video helps)

Open both sides of the pom maker and then pull it apart. Trim down the messy or uneven parts, and….

Ta-Da! Really cute pom poms for allllllll you’re crafting needs!

Once you start, you won’t be able to stop….it’s a sickness, really.

Here’s the video I made in case you need to see it done in person-ish.

Just don’t laugh too much, this is my very first video and I felt really dorky….but I hope it helps!

That’s it! Easy peasy huh? And now you’ll be addicted too!

What crafts do you like that use pom poms?

Have fun!
