So Spring is upon us and with that comes one of my favorite fun days….April Fool’s Day! We play (nice) pranks every year and now that they are getting older, even the kiddos have started thinking up their own fun jokes to spring on us.
The rules are that the tricks cannot be mean (like breaking or ruining things or the house), they cannot make too much of a mess, and tricks cannot be anything permanent (like dying a sister’s hair green).
Here are some fun tricks we’ve played in the past years. Sorry the pics aren’t very good, but they were just quick around-the-house pics.
Ok, so this was the 1st prank we fell for (circa 2006)….this little bug tricked us into thinking she would be born on April 1st, but then held out till the wee hours of April 2nd.
Best. Trick. Ever.
Faux meatloaf and mashed potatoes dinner. This is just chocolate Rice Crispy treats made in a loaf pan and then sliced like meatloaf. The mashed potatoes are vanilla frosting with a lemon Starburst for “butter.” And the veggies are candy peas and carrots I found made by Brach’s Co.
Balloon Drop/Saran Wrap in the face. Hubby used to work nights and sleep days, so the kiddos wanted to play a trick on him while he slept. The balloons stayed up with static electricity against the door and then fell in when he opened the door. For a better effect, you could put them all the way up the door. The saran wrap got him in the face when he walked out the door. But, he was onto us a little and just acted like we “got” him….what a good daddy!
This one is fun to trick the kids with…Fake spilled chocolate milk.
Here’s how. You just need a sandwich baggie, brown paint, and tacky glue (reg works too, but takes longer to dry).
Mix a little paint into some glue.
It will be fairly light, since it will darken quite a bit as it dries.
Pour it out onto the baggie and make sure you put some in the cup too.
Lay it down to dry completely….it will take 24-48 hours to dry, so plan ahead.
School Lunch with eyes….I just wanted to be silly one year and put googly eyes on all their food in their lunches.
This was kiddos first prank….taking the batteries outta the remote and replacing them with a note. Dad was nice enough to give them this idea.
Blue food coloring on the toothbrush. I just put a drop on each toothbrush and then covered it up with paste so they wouldn’t see. Don’t fret, it came off after a few more brushes and they loved it!
Ok, that’s all for now….I will have more to show, so stay tuned.
