Harry Potter Birthday Invitations and Authentic Acceptance Letter and Party Part 1

Well, another birthday party has come and gone around these parts and like always, now is the time to show the super fun results of said party. This one was especially fun since our oldest begged for the magic of a Harry Potter par~tay…of which, I happen to be a super huge fan of {1st book came out the year after I graduated high school and I was hooked by the first page….yes, I’m THAT old}.

You can see Part 2 and Part 3 and Part 4 as well.

Since this party was a magical one…..it needed to be, well, magical! So, I started with the invites and made them look like the acceptance letter young Mr. Potter received on his 11th birthday….from Hagrid.

I also made a “souvenir” acceptance letter for the kiddos to take with them afterwards with their favors. It was fun to see the party goers faces when they saw them….they were a hit! I even sealed them with a wax seal for authenticity.

Here’s how:

I ran over to my nearest office supply store and stocked up on plenty of parchment paper…..I used lots for this shin~dig.

I found the fonts I used for these online. They were:

Aquiline Two, Magik, Lumos, & Hogwarts Wizard. If you want the traditional Harry Potter font, you can use the one called “Parry Hotter.” you can download them free from most font websites. Just do a search and see what comes up.

To make the envelopes, I used my envelope maker by We R Memory Keepers….or you can use this template I have here.

Fold it all up and glue the bottom flaps together. This gives a nice point at the bottom to put the wax seal on.

When I printed the addresses on the envelopes, I used painters tape to hold down the flap. Otherwise, it kept getting caught in the printer and made a big, inky mess.

I also added the Owl Post & Ministry of Magic stamps around the address to make it look more authentic. I found these at this awesome site here. As well as the crest from the top of the page.

I designed the acceptance letters first from the one shown in the movie and book. Then, I re~worded it a bit to make it an invitation. This was so fun!

The wording went:

Dear Miss {or Mr.} McDonald,

We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please join us for a pre-term birthday party in honor of Head Girl, Madison McDonald on July 24th 2014. The Hogwarts Express will depart from 457 ******** Dr., Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, @ 1:00pm and return you @ 3:00pm. We await your owl no later than July 20th or you may also use the muggle method of calling or texting your RSVP to ***-***-8503 (regrets only please). You may wear your school robes or other school attire you may have already purchased from Diagon Alley if you would like, to get you into the school spirit.

The second page is just the supplies list…..the kids thought it was great and started imagining what would happen if they brought those things to their “real” school LOL

The wax seals took a few times to learn how to do without getting wax everywhere, but I like the way they look with the real wax.

I thought the Hogwarts seal stamps were so cool, so I started carrying the stamps in my shop here. Complete with spiffy wooden handle. I will carry the wax soon too, but for now, you can get it at most craft stores in the wedding aisle.

I’m really happy with the way these turned out! I think they set the stage for the whole party.

We did put these in an outer envelope to send through the mail, to make sure the wax seal didn’t get caught in the mail sorters at the post office and it worked fantastically.
